the findings!
Website #1
The first website talked mainly about the decision making behind dropping the atomic bomb. The website first stated that, "American soldiers and civilians were weary from four years of war, yet the Japanese military was refusing to give up their fight" (Website #1). This showed how stubborn the Japanese were and how the American soldiers were done fighting with them. America knew that the atomic bomb would have to ultimately make the Japanese surrender one way or another. The site also said that, "The Japanese military command rejected the request for unconditional surrender, but there were indications that a conditional surrender was possible" (Website #1). Even after the Allied forces issued a warning against Japan, they refused to surrender. This further increased the need for the bomb to be dropped because it was the only that they would surrender. This website also said, "Japan had an army of 2 million strong stationed in the home islands guarding against invasion" (Website #1). This quote shows how defensive and prepared that Japanese army actually was. This called for the bombed to be dropped because it would lead to a bloodbath for the American soldiers if they fought against their forces.
Website #2
This website focused a lot on why the bomb should be dropped on Japan. The website first stated that the dropping the bomb would, "End the war at the earliest possible moment" (Website #2). This was true because the U. S. needed to win the war with the lowest amount of cost. They couldn't risk losing anymore soldiers then they needed to by quickly ending the war. The site also said the bomb was to, "Justify the cost of the Manhattan Project" (Website #2). This was also true because America had spent over 1 billion dollars funding the creation of the atomic bomb. It also took a very long time to create it and would be a waste if they had built it for nothing. The website more importantly stated that dropping the bomb would be for, "Responding to Pearl Harbor" (Website #2). This was another important fact because it called for retaliation against Japan for what they did to innocent American at Pearl Harbor. With this atrocity that happened it was a necessity for the bomb to be dropped on Japan.
Website #3
This website also focused on why the bomb should be dropped on Japan. The site first said that, "The Germans and Americans had been racing to complete the bomb first" (Website #3). This showed how the bomb was in rush to complete. The first to complete the bomb would also be the one to first use, which was why it needed to be constructed quickly. The site also said, "The army estimated that it would have cost between 500,000 to 1,000,000 soldiers lives to mount a successful full scale invasion of Japan" (Website #3). This enormous amount of casualties could not be accepted by America and led them to use the bomb. Dropping it would save all these lives of the soldier's and would help the Allied Powers win the war. The site finally said that, "Truman wanted an unconditional surrender of Japan" (Website #3). Truman needed Japan to surrender in order to stop Japan from getting out of control and further increasing their war effort. He also knew about how prepared they were and how America needed to use the bomb in order to weaken the Japanese war effort and ultimately end the war.
