WHY DID JAPAN ATTACK PEARL HARBOR?
The first website explains early on why the Japanese wanted to attack the U. S. Japan always dreamed of having their own Empire in Asia and began this quest in 1931 (Website 1). Later on, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and the United States all froze Japan's assets in their own country and imposed many economic restrictions against them (Website 1). This forced Japan to either give up with the war effort or keep pushing forward. So Japan decided to keep on moving forward with their war plans and decided to bomb Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Japan saw the U. S. navy as their only major threat and decided to take them out first (Website 3). Japan's attack consisted of two waves of bombing run that destroyed nearly all the boats at the harbor and people.
The second website gives a more brief explanation of why Japan decided to attack Pearl Harbor. The site says that the Japanese were simply tied of peace negotiations with the United States. They were unable to expand their Asian Empire because of the extremely restrictive embargo on Japan (Website 2). These negotiation were an attempt to settle Japan's thirst for war but weren't turning out so well. So instead of continuing on with the negotiations, Japan launched a sudden and unexpected attack on Pearl Harbor. Japan launched the attack in order to destroy the United State's naval power (Website 2).
The third website includes details from both of the websites above. The website first states that President Roosevelt decided to place a restriction on trade with the Japanese Empire (Website 3). With this restriction Japan made a non-aggression pact with Stalin. This pact allowed for the Japanese to focus on one primary target, the United States. Negotiations then began between Japan and the U. S., but were hardly making any progress whatsoever and led to nowhere. The U. S. was unwilling to accept Japanese expansion, while Japan was unwilling to end their conquests (Website 3). Japan then felt that the U. S. were a threat against their newly acquired land, and decided that they needed to weaken the U. S. power. Japan then decided to attack Pearl Harbor in order to weaken the naval fleet before the U. S. would attack them. this is why Japan decided to attack Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
